Sarah,

When I picked up your shoes and took pictures, we joked that my striped socks combined with your pointy shoes made me look like the wicked witch of the west (or was it east?). I have never considered wearing such stylish shoes until you offered yours for this project. I have always been in the comfort over fashion school of dress. It’s not that I don’t enjoy looking good, but it is almost always second priority. So when you described these shoes as being your most comfortable work shoes, I wasn’t sure what to expect.

Before going out, I decided test-walk-around-the-house was in order. Your shoes fit fairly well, but they were a little loose and chafed a little on the top. My solution, grab a pair of socks. This was definitely not the most fashionable solution, but it seemed to solve both of my initial complaints. They also happened to be another pair of striped socks.

That being taken care of, off I went to go grocery shopping. Immediately, while trying to cross the parking lot, I noticed that even that little inch high kitten heel changed my gait considerably. I took my time getting across the parking lot and tried not to look at my feet too much. I never quite got comfortable wearing them while in the store. The posture I adopted while wearing them turned out to be quite a workout; I cannot remember ever being so exhausted after grocery shopping. I didn’t quite make a mile, but it was all I could manage at the time.

I briefly used your shoes to walk on my freshly mopped kitchen floor. As I walked across the floor to pour myself a glass of water, I admired how sophisticated my feet looked in your shoes without those silly striped socks. With nowhere to go, but the refrigerator, I enjoyed walking in your shoes.

Thank you for the opportunity to walk a mile in your shoes.

Sincerely,
Sara, shoe borrower
